quand je n'ai rien à faire

when i have nothing better to do, i like to play dress ups! i wasn't able to attend the french meetup at chenonceaux back in early september (which i was really looking forward to) as i was still settling into my little room. so i've been a little lonely as a lolita with no where to go. but not to worry! i love just putting an outfit together for a quick snap, even just for myself~ (until my friend decides to surprise visit me~~ and since i forget to lock my door so often, it's really shocking sometimes!)

outfit post #95:
- green starry silk hair ribbon: offbrand
- black chiffon polka dot blouse: korea
- my little red riding hood jsk: baby the stars shine bright
- black tights: offbrand

something else i started doing in my spare time is drawing! it's been a very long time since i picked up the pencil and my sketchbook;  i had a break from drawing when nothing turned out right, especially when i force myself to draw something - it never turns out right. so i guess, i have to let things flow? but i was glad i brought my sketchbook with me because sometimes late at night, all i need is some yummy macarons (the lady from the shop knows us as regulars now! heehee~), my favourite playlist and something channel out the creativity~

instead of delicious mooncakes, we had dumplings and a really beautiful full moon to celebrate mid-autumn festival in autumn (for once!)~  we made the delicious dumplings from scratch too - yes! even the dumpling wrappers! my mother has the best recipe back home and luckily i enjoy helping out so i brought some dumpling making skill with me to france. they turned out really well and we're going to make them again this weekend since we're professionals now!~~ yum!

1000+ pageviews!! i'm so excited and happy, thank you for visiting and reading my blog. i'll work hard to keep it interesting too, okay? xx

i'm so full of happiness

i received this super special belated birthday present from my best friend (who is my partner is crime and my favourite twin brother). she knows me and my sweet teeth only too well! it's the laduree sweets recipe book! the book is beautiful and edges of the pages are gold! it twinkled when i flicked through it! it's so elegant, right?

i don't think i'll use the recipes in this book much at all, since i'm so lazy with baking this year! but i will be staring at each page longingly wishing i was in paris. which leads me to my next point! i've been officially accepted into the university in france and in three months time, i will be in poitiers studying on an exchange! my friend who gave this book to me will be coming too, we'll be studying (and living) together, i'm so super excited about this! i just can't wait~

i came home with passport forms, flight quotes and appointment times with my university. yes, this is actually happening. macaron tower of delicious sweet sugar, you will be mine~!!

do you like cheese?

i must admit i'm not a huuge fan of cheese in general. i don't care much for the different tastes or smells. but, i do love cheese in cake! two years ago, my friends, knowing my love for cheesecakes, bought me this cookbook. and i decided to make myself a yummy cheesecake brownie cake for my birthday this year. (it was a passionfruit cheesecake last year~)

i might not be able to cook anything savoury, but the sweet smell of sugar and chocolate is very encouraging~ cheesecakes, not only taste delicious, are usually very easy to make. normally i stick to non-bake cheesecakes where the chances of me burning things are, well, zero. but today, i thought i should try familiarising myself with the oven.

this is the chocolate brownie half going into the oven. it smelt so yummy! if i didn't make this right after breakfast, i think i would have eaten it before it was finished!

and this is the cheesecake half after i took it out of the oven. it's a little burnt and it looks like a huge creme brulee! i was too busy replying to the annual mass of birthday messages on facebook that i forgot to keep an eye on the cake. oops!

apart from it's terrible appearance, the cake was well enjoyed by my family and they were all keen for seconds. success? i think so. and a couple of macarons just to top of a sugar filled day. yum!!

there are some days

when you just can't get enough chocolate, right?

my friends and i have been planning a girly (and very chocolatey) bake day for chats and sweets. and we finally found the time at the end of the mid-semester break to get the oven going and bake some cakes. i was in charge of making the triple chocolate chip brownies (ahem, from a box mix) which turned out pretty good, especially with the vanilla ice cream~

we also baked a yummy chocolate cake with chocolate icing (also, from a box mix. yes we were being lazy!) with a sliced cut out, we made a pacman cake~ wagga wagga wagga~ after a huuge slice of brownie and a smaller slice of cake, we decided the day was a success and returned home for some more substantial and salty food! but, i was so full of sweets, it was pretty difficult to fit any more food in me!

ah, i do have to admit that after a day of sugary and chocolatey goodness, a thorough teeth brushing was in order. that's the secret of eating huge amounts of sweets and keeping the cavities away!
